Sylvia Freije

Sylvia has served on numerous boards in different capacities over the years.

She moved to Wilton five years ago.

She found Encore to be a perfect match as a new member of the community.

It has provided a way to connect with others.

She and her husband enjoy exploring new restaurants, gardening and babysitting the grand dogs.

CO-VICE-PRESIDENT

Naomi Kalmus

Naomi is a recent transplant to Wilton from Silicon Valley in CA. Where she and her family lived for 38 years; She moved to Wilton to be closer to one of her daughter’s family as well as the rest of her immediate family.

Before retiring Naomi worked in marketing and marketing communications for high tech companies.  She did everything from launching new products to planning and running major corporate events.  She also ran her own consulting company for a few years.  After retiring, she was an active member of the curriculum committee of the Santa Clara chapter of Osher Lifelong Learning.  She also chaired the public lecture committee of the Saratoga Foothill Club, a local philanthropic women’s organization.

Since joining Wilton Encore, Naomi has attended numerous coffees, lunches, book club meeting meetings and is a regular participant in the weekly mahjong group. She spends lots of time working out, attending her grandkids’ sports and musical activities, and going to theater locally and in NYC.  She and her husband also like to travel for sightseeing and relaxation.

CO-VICE PRESIDENT

Betsy Thomas

Betsy moved to Wilton in 1980. Both of her children grew up here and both have returned to raise their children. Betsy was on the PTA board at different times during their school years. Now she enjoys going to her grandchildren’s events and sports games. 

For the past 20 or so years Betsy worked for Open House in Wilton center, retiring this past August.  She has also volunteered for Mink to Sinks for too many years to count

SECRETARY

Carol Comiskey

Carol and her husband, John, have lived in Wilton for over thirty years but recently moved to Norwalk.  After retirement from IBM, Carol started her own website business selling women’s clothing. Although thoroughly enjoying this new endeavor for ten years, Carol decided to really retire! She has been an active member of Encore for over ten years and enjoys their many activities and creating many meaningful friendships with the wonderful women in Encore. She has previously served as both Vice President and President. Carol also enjoys traveling, food pantry volunteering and her four grandchildren. She is a firm believer in that life is what you make it!

CO-SECRETARY

Daryl Ramsey

Daryl and husband Paul, originally from the Boston area, have lived in multiple locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Minnesota, largely because of Paul’s work in the insurance industry.  Daryl, an RN, easily followed and worked in numerous jobs while raising three daughters. We moved to Wilton in 2023 to be closer to our youngest daughter and grandchildren. Past activities include biking, pickleball and politics. Like so many others, I have found the Encore family to be incredibly welcoming, inclusive and interesting.  Encore has helped me immensely in establishing myself in Wilton.

TREASURER

Karen Birck

Karen and her husband, Paul Burnham, have been Wilton residents since 1991.  Prior to moving to Wilton, Karen practiced real estate law in the Hartford area.  In Wilton, Karen has been an active volunteer serving on various PTA boards, on the Board of Education and on several school renovation building committees.  She enjoys reading, gardening, movies and playing bridge.  Paul and Karen travel to several North American bridge tournaments each year.  Currently, Karen works as one of Wilton’s Registrars of Voters. Karen is a past Vice-President and President of Encore.  She is Encore’s current treasurer.

NEWSLETTER EDITOR

Gail Nielsen

Gail was born and attended school in Connecticut and is an avid fan of UConn sports! After returning to CT from the Boston area, she has resided in Wilton for over 40 years. Gail practiced physical therapy in a variety of settings before opening her own physical therapy practice in Wilton, with a second office to follow, enjoying 20 years of providing health care to the greater Wilton community. Since retirement, Gail has enjoyed painting, travel, art  appreciation, photography and volunteering for Minks to Sinks that benefits Norwalk Family and Children’s Services. She enjoys spending time with her two children’s families in New Hampshire, Vermont and East Haddam, Cape Cod, as well as international travel. As a member of the Board of Directors of Encore, editing the monthly newsletter and attending many wonderful activities with this welcoming group of ladies, life is never dull! Gail has also served as president of Encore.
